Public toilets and comfort scheme
Please use the public toilets and comfort schemes. Links are below.
Remember NEVER empty cassettes (tanks) of toilet waste into our public toilets. Use facilities provided by campgrounds and recognised dumping stations.
If you have to go to the toilet in the countryside, please remember to be prepared and take a trowel or a “poo pot”.
EV charging points
Electric vehicle charging points are becoming more widely available. Sometimes, however, there is only one – so please keep topped up – you might get there to discover someone else using it, or that it’s out of order.
Rubbish and recycling
Please always dispose of your waste in the correct receptacles. If they are full, keep your rubbish with you until you find another. DO NOT leave bags of rubbish beside a full bin.
Rubbish bins are located throughout the islands. In addition there are bottle banks in supermarket car parks and other public car parks.
Motorhome dumping stations
Only ever dispose of your toilet waste in recognised disposal points. The following campgrounds all have disposal points:
- Edinbane
- Dunvegan
- Portree
- Sligachan
- Broadford
- Staffin
Reporting a problem to Highland Council
If you should encounter a problem with any Highland Council run facility, you can report it using the following form.
